Good news everyone–thanks to the departments of agriculture in the Maritime Provinces, ACORN will be receiving steady operating funding for the next four years.
The PEI Department of Agriculture, the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, and the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture will provide $60,000 each over the course of the next four years, ending March 31, 2012.
“This funding is a serious commitment on the part of our Maritime governments to support organic agriculture,” said Andrew Kernohan, ACORN President. “We are very appreciative.”
There are currently 170 certified farms and businesses in Atlantic Canada, which represents more than 25% growth since 2002.
