Exciting Funding Opportunity from ACORN’s Fruit and Berry Network!

Are you a berry grower interested in visiting a trial site or farm to learn more about a specific production method? Perhaps you grow some organic fruit and would like to learn more about another variety to introduce to your farm? Here’s your chance to apply for funding to help you out in this endeavour!

ACORN’s Fruit and Berry Network is pleased to be offering Educational Mission Trip Funding for fruit and berry growers/enthusiasts! The purpose of the Educational Mission Trip Funding is to increase organic fruit and berry production in the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. FBNetwork_Application_2013button

Applicants must be farmers who are currently growing fruit and/or berry crops that are certified organic, in transition to organic, or have reduced input with plans for organic production, or be planning to grow organic fruit and berry crops in the near future. Preference will be given to farmers who are currently growing fruit and berry crops, but all farmers are welcome to apply.  Applicants must be members of ACORN. New members who have joined in 2013 are welcome to apply. Both individuals and groups of farmers are welcome to apply for funding.

This funding will assist Atlantic Canadian fruit and berry growers to gain knowledge and experience specific to organic fruit production. The educational mission may address: production methods including season extension, pest management, nutrient management, new varieties or species of fruit, harvest technologies, storage, processing, marketing or other validated experience.

(Proposals must be received by August 1st, 2013, with travel completed and final report submitted by November 15th, 2013.)
