It is exciting to see the number of registrants growing and the momentum building around the ACORN office for the 2013 Beginner Farmer Symposium. On Monday, August 19th farmers and food advocates will converge on Sackville’s Mount Allison University for the 2nd series of workshops and panel discussions designed specifically to contribute to the development of the region’s next generation of farmers. For more details and/or to register, click here!
The line-up is set and the schedule, speaker bios and workshop descriptions are now up online! We are pleased to have such a great group of talented farmers and business people speaking this year. One of the farmers taking the time out of his busy summer schedule is David Alexander of Everdale Organic Farm and Learning Centre, ON.
David Alexander has helped over 40 farmers complete comprehensive business plans, leading approximately 90% of those graduates to establish successful new farm operations across Canada. David spends his summers administering Everdale’s 300 member Harvest Share program while working in the fields as much as possible.
Business and finances are a huge part of farming, and ACORN is SO THRILLED to be bringing David’s experience and skills in leading farm business plan development to the Maritimes!
To find out more about the rest of the speakers and the list of workshops available, be sure to visit the Beginner Farmer Symposium page and register today!
One update we’d like to share is that following the Monday’s Beginner Farmer Symposium, ACORN is collaborating with the Black Duck Coffee House in Sackville, N.B. for a Beginner Farmer Brunch on Tuesday, August 20th, from 8-11 a.m. Along with the delicious organic brunch and friendly company, industry experts will be in attendance for an informal Q&A to answer on all your start-up farm related questions. ALL ARE WELCOME! If you are interested in attending please email Mara at firstname.lastname@example.org with your option choice of meat or vegetarian, and for more details.
